Carbondale Warming Center prepares for winter weather

The warming center says they have contingency plans if the weather is too bad for people to leave during the day.

The Carbondale Warming Center is preparing for the winter weather expected to hit the area on Wednesday night and Thursday.

Executive Director Carmalita Cahill said the center is preparing additional space in advance of the storm.

"We re-opened the upstairs area that was once our safe space for people who had COVID or were testing. We re-opened that because we felt the need was greater to get more people off of the streets when it's cold," she said.

Cahill said there are about 40 beds in their overnight program, and check in is from 6 pm to 10:30 pm. An ID is required to check into the center. Anyone without an ID can go to the Carbondale Police Department to have their identity confirmed and allow them to check in.
