St. Louis Blues fans by the tens of thousands gathered downtown Saturday to watch their team celebrate its first Stanley Cup victory.

The rain let up just as the parade began at noon. Floats, which featured individual players and their families, started at 18th Street and moved slowly down Market Street toward Gateway Arch National Park.

Updated at 11 a.m., June 13 with details about the championship parade — For the first time in their 52-year history, the St. Louis Blues have hoisted the Stanley Cup.

The Blues defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 Wednesday night to secure their first-ever National Hockey League championship. When the final buzzer sounded, fans in St. Louis and elsewhere erupted in a long-awaited celebration, as the Blues mobbed their goaltender on the ice in Boston.

The city of St. Louis will honor the team with a parade and rally downtown along Market Street at noon on Saturday. The route starts at 18th Street and ends at Broadway. A rally will be held afterwards at the Gateway Arch.

With high school sports starting soon, a group of coaches, athletics administrators, E-M-S officials and team trainers met at Carterville High School this past wednesday to share their knowledge on treating injured high school athletes.  The sports injury drill was organized by sports specialists with Sportsology, a collaboration between Southern Illinois Healthcare, Rehab Unlimited athletic trainers and SIU Healthcare sports medicine physicians and trainers.

In a statement released Wednesday, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak and team chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. strongly condemned the alleged hacking.

"These are serious allegations that don’t reflect who we are as an organization,” DeWitt said.   "We are committed to getting to the bottom of this matter as soon as possible, and if anyone within our organization is determined to be involved in anything inappropriate, they will be held accountable."

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is inviting kids to go fishin'

Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon launched the Special Olympics 2013 Spring Games Friday in Carbondale.

More than 500 athletes are competing in track and field events. More than 600 friends and family are expected to cheer them on.  The gold-medal winners from area games will move on to compete in the Special Olympics State Summer Games at Illinois State University in June.

Busch Stadium isn’t only for Cardinals baseball games anymore. The stadium will house concerts, a soccer game and for the first time ever, an NCAA football game.

It was formally announced Monday that Southeast Missouri State University will take on Southern Illinois University in the stadium on September 21st at 1:00 pm.
