The African Children's Choir has been touring the world for over three decades, and they have performed for Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Paul McCartney, Keith Urban, as well as countless churches across the United States.

The Sigma Alpha Iota fraternity at SIU Carbondale is organizing an instrument drive to collect, not only instruments, but music supplies.  The collection will run through May 5th. 

NPR's series "American Anthem" is striking a chord across the country.

Murphysboro's Gary Hart says "an 'anthem' is more than a song. An anthem is the right song heard by the right person and the right time in the right circumstances."

To that end, Hart has crafted his own "American Anthem," and shared it with us.

WSIU InFocus: SIU Guitar Festival

The SIU Guitar Festival takes place on Friday November 10th, 2017 and Saturday November 11th, 2017.  In addition to a variety of concerts with international guitar experts, there will be several workshops.  Some of the music will be based on the Jazz style, and on this edition of WSIU InFocus, we visit with Dr. Isaac Lausell, who leads the guitar program at the SIU-Carbondale School of Music.

Lee Schreiner of Rockford doesn’t play the piano or sing. He’s a physics teacher with multiple degrees from Northern Illinois University. But his hobby of collecting wartime sheet music has grown over the years.

“I thought maybe I could collect like a hundred sheets," he admits. "Then it was a thousand. Then it was five thousand. It’s amazing and almost unexplored territory because people had not done a lot of research on World War I. I'm trying to understand the history through the music.”

Prince — the Purple One, who reeled off pop hits in five different decades — has died at age 57. The shocking news was confirmed by Prince's publicist after reports that police were investigating a death at his Paisley Park compound outside Minneapolis.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer Prince Rogers Nelson has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said. "There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time."
