An annual tradition returns to Carbondale for the 43rd year.

The Great Cardboard Boat Regatta takes place on April 30th.

The mother of an SIU student who was found dead in early 2014 says she wants Carbondale city leaders to help answer questions that remain from his case.

A group calling itself the May 2 Strike Committee is calling on all SIU-Carbondale students to strike on that first Monday in May.

Authorities have identified their primary suspects in Sunday morning's shooting on West Walnut Street in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police are investigating another shooting - this time at the Evolve apartment complex on South Illinois Avenue.

Carbondale Police have arrested a man they believe is connected to a deadly shooting early Sunday morning.

Officers say 21-year-old Dwayne Dunn of St. Louis has been taken into custody and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. The police department is attempting to locate two others, who are believed to be the primary suspects.

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale gave a sneak peek at their state of the art Hybrid OR Tuesday.

They will start using the hybrid OR at the end of the month.

This is part of their 52 million dollar expansion they started in the fall of 2014.

Polar Bear is one of Carbondale's biggest party weekend's of the year.    It occurred this past weekend and local hospital officials say the number of ER visits related to the Polar Bear event were up 50% over last year.

The Emergency Department at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale says at least 30-individuals were treated for injuries associated with Polar Bear activities.  Hospital officials say they saw an increase in the number of alcohol-related incidents as well as incidents of assault.

 

Community leaders, realtors and city staff will discuss housing in Carbondale during a meeting this weekend.

Carbondale Study Circles, Neighborhood Action Group's annual Neighborhood Alliance Meeting will focus on issues regarding the City's housing market and stock.

The Carbondale Park District needs to raise around $300,000 to finish the Super Splash Park Outdoor Aquatic Center.

District executive director Kathy Renfro says she will request the park board allow her to issue a line of credit from a local bank and then secure the credit through a bond sale. She says they would also hold fundraisers to raise the money.

Carbondale Community Arts opens its new headquarters this weekend in Carbondale. The building, at 304 West Walnut, used to house Carbondale's public library. Now, it's an open space with plenty of natural light, and for leaders in the organization now - the opportunities are nearly endless.

The Carbondale City Council will vote on an amended contract for Chief of Police Jeff Grubbs.

The City of Carbondale has named Gary Williams as its interim City Manager.

Williams currently serves as assistant city manager for economic development.  He has been with the city for a little more than four years.

After two nights of closed session meetings, the Carbondale City Council and Mayor Mike Henry will continue to evaluate candidates for the interim city manager's position.
