Four republican members of the Illinois House are calling for an audit of the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The issue started two weeks ago when a constituent of Representative Terri Bryant alerted her they were able to see personal information of others as they were filing an unemployment claim.
Bryant says she doesn't believe the governor's office has responded with the proper urgency. The Murphysboro republican hopes Governor Pritzker responds doesn't wait for the audit until lawmakers return to Springfield this fall.
"He can fix this right now. We don't have to wait until November. But, if we have to wait until November, we'll be pressing it even at that time. We're going to press thoughout the entire summer to get this resolved."
During his daily briefing Thursday, when asked about the audit, Pritzker says his administration has been transparent about the problems with IDES.
"I have stood here, I don't know how many times over the past two-plus months, and told people what hasn't worked right and how we've been trying to address it. Again, we've brought in some of the biggest, most robust companies in America to help us rebuild those systems."
Bryant says she wants the audit to also look into the no-bid contract awarded to Deloitte in April to set up a new system for gig workers and independent contractors to file unemployment claims.
