WSIU, Southern Illinois Immigrant Rights Project to Host Screening of PBS film “Homeland: Jobs”
Carbondale, Ill. – WSIU Public Broadcasting, a service of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and the Southern Illinois Immigrant Rights Project will co-present a free screening and discussion of an episode from the PBS film Homeland: Immigration in America, as part of WSIU’s Community Cinema film series. The event will be held on Sunday, August 26 @ 2pm at The Varsity Center, located at 418 S Illinois Ave, in Carbondale, IL.
Produced by Nine Network in St. Louis and narrated by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for PBS NewsHour, the film explores the politics and people on all sides of immigration through contemporary stories of immigrants and those who confront them, as well as people who give them help and those who craft legislation that affects them. The episode to be screened, “Jobs’ explores the spectrum of immigrant jobs and the complex maze of rules, regulations, caps, and quotas challenging the country at many levels.
Cindy Buys, Professor of Law and Director of International Law Programs at the SIU School of Law; Wayne Sirles of Rendleman Orchards; and Scott Gilbert from the SIU Department of Economics will moderate a discussion after the film.
