Carbondale, Ill.-- The public media series Illinois Lawmakers will produce live coverage of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's Budget Address to the Illinois General Assembly on Wednesday, February 22 at noon.
WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), will broadcast the speech live on their primary HD channels, WSIU-TV 8.1 and WUSI-TV 16.1, with a repeat at 11pm on the same channels. Additional repeats will air on WSIU WORLD, channels 8.2 and 16.2, on February 22 at 7pm and again on Friday, February 24 at 8pm.
WSIU Public Radio also will carry the Governor's address live, with additional coverage provided that same day by the WSIU Radio news team during local breaks on All Things Considered, which airs from 3-6:30pm.
Illinois Lawmakershost Jak Tichenor will anchor the program, which will include bipartisan reaction to the Governor's Budget Address and analysis from veteran Statehouse correspondents. Governor Quinn is expected to call for deep cuts in Medicaid spending, which now accounts for nearly a fourth of the state budget. Pension reforms, closing state facilities, and across the board agency budget cuts are also on the list of proposals the Governor is expected to outline for lawmakers this week.
