What Are Essential Businesses and Services During the Pandemic?

The State of Illinois' Stay At Home order has caused businesses -- not considered essential -- to shut down for at least the next few weeks.

Gun shops are not among those shutting down. Governor J-B Pritkzer says he believes it's important to keep gun shops open right now.

"I think there were quite a lot of people downstate who felt like they'd like the opportunity at least to buy ammunition or something else because they might want to go hunting by themselves or to protect themselves."

While many churches have stopped holding in-person worship services during the pandemic, there are reports some have not. Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Engoze Ezike says houses of worship must close.

"Let's understand, kids are home from school, people are home from work, schools and offices are closed. Religious houses have to do the same. We all must make the sacrifice."

Ezike says hold virtual services because it's not worth putting people at risk.
