Congregate facilities have resulted in a large number of COVID-19 cases in Illinois.
One location in deep southern Illinois to experience an outbreak is the federally-run Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin, which is a field office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngoze Ezike says because it's a federal facility, the Southern Seven Health Department is more involved than the state.
"We have offered consultation. We have reviewed the methods that have been employed surrounding that outbreak. We actually did see that they have taken the appropriate measures to mitigate the outbreak. We are partnering with our local health department."
Ezike says the IDPH will continue to monitor the situation and provide advice if needed.
