Treating COVID-19 With Plasma Therapy

The FDA has recently issued an emergency use authorization for convalescent plasma as a treatment for COVID-19. Southern Illinois Healthcare has been participating in an extended access program, treating southern Illinoians with plasma. Doctor Sonal Shah spoke with WSIU's Steph Whiteside about the program and the use of plasma. 

Shah said local results from plasma treatment have been mixed. SIH will continue to provide plasma therapy, alont with other treatments for COVID-19. 
 

In Illinois, more than 230,000 people have contracted COVID-19 and more than 8,000 have died since the pandemic began in March.
