Treasurer Rutherford Says FEMA Assistance Not Dead Yet For Southern Illinois

The State Treasurer's office is already doing what it can to help tornado damage victims by working with area banks in southern Illinois.

While FEMA's decision to not provide financial help to the region caught many off guard, Treasurer Dan Rutherford says he has seen this happen before and when other communities have been denied FEMA assistance in the past. Some reassessed, appealed and were awarded help.

Rutherford says he isn't sure if a re-assessment in this case will change minds at FEMA, but he says it's worth trying.

In the meantime, the state treasurer's office is working with area banks to provide low interest loans to help storm victims repair damage.
