With national HIV Testing Day set for next week, Southern Seven Health Department is now offering HIV PrEP medication services at its Cairo clinic for those at risk of contracting the disease.
Currently in Illinois, there are over 35-thousand people living with HIV. Alexander, Pulaski and Johnson Counties are all considered high-rate HIV prevalence. In 2015, Alexander County was the second highest in the state, behind Chicago/Cook County.
June 27th is National HIV Testing Day, an annual occasion to encourage people to get an HIV test, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment if they have HIV.
