SIU Expected to Name Interim Chancellor Soon

Norhtern Arizona University

An interim Chancellor for Southern Illinois University Carbondale could be named in the next few weeks.

During a special meeting in Edwardsville Tuesday, SIU Trustees met with system President Randy Dunn to talk about their next steps.  Last week, Carbondale campus Chancellor Rita Cheng was named President of Northern Arizona University. Dunn says he'll begin talking with potential candidates for the interim position immediately, and hopes that person will work to get the campus ready for a new leader.

Trustee Chair Randal Thomas says he and other board members have faith in the process as it's unfolding: "We are very confident in the new President that we've hired, and we'll take his recommendations and go with those."

Dunn says an interim chancellor will likely be named in time for the next scheduled Board meeting, which is set for July 24th in Springfield, and a process for searching for a permanent chancellor will be announced soon after that.

Chancellor Cheng has not yet announced her last day in Carbondale. Her first day at Northern Arizona University is August 15th.
