Southern Illinois Healthcare nurses will soon have the opportunity to further their education, through a partnership with McKendree University.
The program will allow Registered Nurses to complete their Bachelor of Nursing Degree at John A Logan College in Carterville. McKendree already has a partnership with the community college to provide a BSN program there.
Jennifer Campos is SIH’s Nursing Education Director. She says this new opportunity for current employees will benefit patients:
“Multiple research studies over the last probably two decades or so have shown that BSN nurses at the bedside decreased mortality rates, prevent failure to rescue rates, and just an overall improvement in healthcare outcomes from a nursing perspective.”
The first cohort of students will begin this fall, with a class of up to 25. Campos says SIH has multiple ways of helping students complete a BSN, including tuition reimbursement, scholarships and other financial packages.
McKendree University is located in Lebanon, Illinois. It has partnered with several area community colleges to offer the BSN program.
