Illinois Wesleyan University has suspended the campus's Sigma Pi Chapter for three years following the death of one of its members. The Bloomington Pantagraph reports the university's judicial committee found the fraternity responsible for serious violations of the student code of conduct. The move stems from the death of freshman Brandon Landau of New York, who died March 4th after being found face-down in a creek at the edge of White Pines State Park in northern Illinois. Sigma Pi was hosting its annual formal in nearby Oregon, Illinois. Preliminary autopsy results indicated Landau had consumed alcohol and marijuana. Fraternities and sororities are required to register all events, but officials say the Sigma Pi formal was not registered.
