Illinois Republicans spent Tuesday stumping for their party's candidate in the race for the 5th District Supreme Court Seat.
GOP Chairman Tim Schneider joined Congressman Mike Bost, Senators Paul Schimpf and Dale Fowler, and Representative Patrick Windhorst on a press tour across the 5th judicial district in support of Appellate Justice David Overstreet.
Overstreet’s opponent is Judge Judy Cates - who serves on Illinois' 5th District Appellate bench along with Overstreet.
Republicans say Judge Cates is a liberal activist presenting herself as a downhome judge.
Illinois Senator Paul Schimpf says this is demonstrated by the campaigns she donates to.
“Just this very year she has transferred $5000 from her campaign committee to speaker Madigan’s committee, she’s also over the course of her public life, she’s given hundreds of thousands of dollars to far left candidates and extreme political activist organizations.”
Overstreet and Cates are in a hotly contested race for a seat being vacated by Surpreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier, who is retiring.
