Illinois' next governor is suggesting he will let the state's income tax drop come January.
Bruce Rauner says he's ok with the rate dropping to 3.75% in January as scheduled.
"We'll take short-term solutions to get through a budget crisis next year and everybody wants to talk about what's going to be the short-term answer. We got into this mess by only thinking short-term. Let's talk about short-term, but let's also talk about long-term competitiveness."
If the tax rate does drop - the state will have a nearly $2 billion budget hole.
Outgoing Governor Pat Quinn advocated for keeping the income tax at a higher rate - to avoid that budget hole.
