Quinn Releases Tax Return

Governor Pat Quinn's tax returns show he made more money last year but gave less to charity in 2012.

Governor Pat Quinn's income is up, now that state employees and officials are no longer taking furlough days.  Quinn earned $177,412. That's nearly $5,000 more pay than he earned in 2011 when he was also governor.

The Comptroller's office says that's because in 2011 Quinn had to take unpaid days off. Quinn had issued an executive order requiring non-unionized workers take furlough days as a way to help ease the state's budget deficit.  At the time Quinn said "unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures."

Illinois' budget is still struggling, but Quinn hasn't issued a furlough order since then. The governor's latest tax returns also show he gave $7,500 to charity. That's about $4,000 less than he gave in 2011.

In a press release the governor's office lists Quinn's salary as about $160,000 -- but that's after pre-tax deductions.
