The Newman Center in Carbondale had to make some changes to their Thanksgiving Day meal because of COVID-19 restrictions.
For more than 50 years the Newman Catholic Student Center at Southern Illinois University has opened its doors on Thanksgiving to anyone that doesn’t have a place to go.
JP Dunn has spent the over 25 years organizing the preparations. 2020’s Thanksgiving will be a lot different.
“This year there is a lot we’re still uncertain of, we don’t know quite what to expect we planned for this primarily carry out, delivery and curbside service.”
Volunteers traditionally spend the week preparing enough food to feed around a thousand people for dine-in and covering meals-on-wheels deliveries. This time, it’s all “to-go.”
People can call the Newman Center to place an order ahead of time for pick up or delivery.
