In-person learning is being paused this week for eighth grade students at Murphysboro Middle School.
The district notified parents Monday about a second eighth grade teacher and one eighth grade student who tested positive for COVID-19.
The Jackson County Health Department believes these are three separate, unrelated cases. But, leaders at Murphysboro Middle School still believe it's best to take a break from in-person classes this week. They will resume on September 22.
The district says the eighth grade class as a whole is not under quarantine, but the students should practice social distancing, wear face coverings and avoid meeting in groups.
