Few southern Illinois Voters turned out for Tuesday's Primary election.
Despite a four-way Republican governor's race and a contested State House race in the 115th District only about a quarter of registered voters went to the polls.
The State Board of Elections says just a fraction of registered voters have bothered showing up in recent primary elections. With the exception of Johnson County, voter turnout in southern Illinois was typically less than 20-percent - some much less. There were not as many locally contested races in most counties which does impact voter turnout. In Johnson County where there were some contested races as well as a politically charged referendum to ban hydraulic fracturing, the turnout was right at 50-percent of all registered voters.
By comparison, Franklin County reported just 8-percent voter turnout followed by 9.5-percent in Union County, 15-percent in Williamson County, 17.5-percent in Jackson County, and 19-percent in Randolph County.
