WSIU, Cedarhurst to Host Free PBS KIDS Star Party Family Event on Space Exploration

Event is Sat, April 22, 1-4pm at Cedarhurst, Mt. Vernon IL

Carbondale, Ill. – Reporters, camera crews, and photographers are invited to cover PBS KIDS Star Party, a free family event focusing on space exploration and the upcoming Solar Eclipse. It will be held, rain or shine, this Saturday, April 22 from 1pm to 4pm at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, 2600 Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Free parking will be available at Cedarhurst and at United Methodist Children’s Home, 2023 E. Richview Road, which is adjacent to Cedarhurst.

PBS KIDS Star Party is presented by WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University, and Cedarhurst Center for the Artswith support from sponsors Southern Illinois Healthcare and the SIU Credit Union.

Among the activities scheduled are:

• Photo ops with PBS KIDS walk-around characters Nature Cat, Word Girl, and Jet Propulsion

• Tours of the StarLab Planetarium, courtesy of the Murphysboro School District

• Solar demonstrations with the SIU Physics Department

• Solar Eclipse presentation by special guest Mat Kaplan of The Planetary Society and host of the national public radio series Planetary Radio

• PBS KIDS activity stations exploring science, music, and art

* Official Southern Illinois Solar Eclipse Poster sales

* Music with local children’s music leader, Bill Harper
