One inmate at the United States Penitentiary in Marion has died from COVID-19.
65 year-old Earl James tested positive for the virus on July 22. He showed symptoms of shortness of breath, coughing, and hypoxia and was transferred to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on August 2.
James had pre-existing medical conditions which the CDC lists as risk factors for COVID-19.
The prison currently has 134 confirmed cases.
