Illinois Logs 2,270 New COVID-19 Cases (May 6)

The state of Illinois is recording 2,270 new cases of COVID-19, with an additional 136 deaths.

Public Health Director Doctor Ngoze Ezeke says there were 14,974 tests performed in the last 24 hours, and more than 360,000 performed since testing began.

The state's overall total COVID-19 cases is 68,232. Ezike says 2,974 have died.

LOCAL CASES:

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department:

  • Williamson County is reporting its first death from COVID-19, along with four new cases. The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department says a man in his 60s who had contracted the virus at work outside the county has died. The new cases include a teen girl, a man in his 20s, a woman in her 40s, and a woman in her 50s.
     
  • Williamson County's total COVID-19 cases now stands at 41, with 18 recoveries and one death. Franklin County has 10 confirmed cases, with 5 recoveries.

Jackson County:

  • A tenth COVID-19 patient - a man in his 60s - has died in Jackson County, and six new cases are being recorded. The new cases include three women - one in her 30s, one in her 40s, and one in her 50s; and three men - one in his 30s, one in his 40s, and one in his 60s.
     
  • Jackson County's total positive cases is now 155, with 62 released from isolation and ten deaths.

Jefferson County:

  • Jefferson County is reporting one new case of COVID-19. Health Department officials say the patient is a woman in her 30s, who is isolating at home.
     
  • Ninety-one cases of COVID-19 have been logged in Jefferson County, with 69 recoveries and 14 deaths.

Southern Seven Health Department:

  • In the Southern Seven Health Department service area, 21 new cases of COVID-19 are reported. They include two from Alexander County, one from Massac County, two from Pulaski County, and 16 in Union County.
     
  • Overall, Southern Seven reports 88 total COVID-19 cases, with 31 recoveries and one death.
