Members of the Illinois High School Association have dropped plans to use districts during the football season.
The new format was supposed to start in 2021. But, schools rescinded the plan this week by a vote of 374 to 241.
The district plan would've replaced conferences with districts arranged by class into eight geographic groups.
Some of the criticism of the district format proposal was that it lacked specifics on how to implement it and it allowed out of district games to be played that would not count to playoff qualification.
