The Illinois Department of Transportation is developing a bicycle transportation plan.
This will be the first time for such a plan statewide in Illinois. The goal is to make cycling safer, more convenient and more accessible.
A public meeting will be held August 1st from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Carbondale Civic Center. This meeting will cover funding, safety, guidelines for bike paths and lanes, and more. The state is looking at developing regional biking networks as well as a long-range plan to help guide future infrastructure improvements.
