You can continue to expect major traffic delays along Interstate–57 at Mt. Vernon.
The state department of transportation says they are entering the final stage of the lane expansion project that will widen the interstate to six lanes through Mt. Vernon. Both northbound and southbound traffic are restricted to one–lane in each direction. The lane restrictions are expected to remain in place for about a month.Travel delays of up to an hour have been common. I–DOT encourages motorist to use alternate routes. Marked detours will be posted by the weekend.
