A Field team from the National Weather Service is on the ground in southern Illinois. A preliminary investigation suggests the tornado that surged through the Harrisburg area was an EF-4.Three teams from the National Weather Service office in Paducah are in the region Wednesday. Rick Shanklin with the National Weather service says a review of the damage near the Walmart store and surrounding neighborhood indicates wind speeds in excess of 170 miles per hour. Shanklin says the path of the storm is about 200-yards wide as it moved through the southeast side of Harrisburg.
Teams are also assessing damage in Saline County as well as in Metropolis and in Newburg, Indiana along with damage in Stoddard and Cape Griardeau Counties in southeast Missouri.
