Governor Accuses Speaker of Political Gaming

By IL Radio Network

Chicago, IL – An after-Halloween trick could be up Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan's sleeve. Gov. Rod Blagojevich is suggesting the Speaker is secretly pushing for an increase in the income tax, sales tax, or both after the November election.
State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago) says Blagojevich is making things up out of whole cloth and creating another crisis. My recollection is that the speaker has said there will be no income or sales tax increase after the election.
Blagojevich is urging lawmakers to approve a major construction plan as well as a package of fund sweeps to make up a 2009 deficit the governor's office pegs at $2 billion.
