Ferrell Hospital has received a grant to provide emergency childcare for healthcare workers
Healthcare workers who have continued to work throughout the coronavirus pandemic have had to deal with daycare closures and school cancellations that disrupted previous childcare arrangements. Ferrell received the funding to open the daycare through the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network.
Caleigh Bruce, director of human resources at Ferrell hospital, said the service is free to employees and has been popular with the staff.
“A lot of them are very excited that we offered it, I’ve heard a lot saying you know how long is this going to be available, this is a great service,” she said.
The daycare is also open to employees at Harrisburg Medical Center. It is one of 12 emergency childcare facilities in the state that have opened in response to the pandemic.
