Attendance was up at this year's Du Quoin State Fair.
Spokesperson Krista Lisser says the number of people visiting the fair in southern Illinois increased by 23 percent.
"Great news from the fair, continued great news actually, last week we saw that the grandstand numbers had an increase in ticket sales and revenue and this week attendance, after we figured that up, estimated attendance numbers of nearly 124,000 people are the highest in four years."
Lisser says strong grandstand concert sales helped boost attendance numbers.
"By generating more at the ticket office for the grandstand that brought more people to the fairgrounds, but also, for the first time since 2016, it was free admission to the fair. I think that brought a lot of families back out."
The grandstand saw a 26 percent increase in tickets sales and 37 percent increase in revenue this fair season, generating more than 97-thousand dollars.
The 2020 Du Quoin State Fair will run August 28 through September 7.
