Carbondale Woman Arrested after Driving a Stolen Vehicle

A Carbondale woman faces multiple charges after driving the wrong way and leading police on a chase on Monday, April 13.

Police say it happened around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a reckless driver going the wrong-way on a one-way street.

Witnesses told police the driver hit a street sigh and continued traveling on the 2400 block of W. Main St.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, but she refused to pull over.

Eventually, the driver hit an embankment on North Wall St., near Oak St. This caused the vehicle to become stuck.

The driver, identified as 36-year-old Lisa Chumley was arrested.

Police said the Chumley was the only occupant in the car. During the investigation of the incident, police learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Murphysboro.
