The City of Carbondale is a winner of a 2012 Sunny Award.The awards are handed out by the Sunshine Review, a nonprofit organization dedicated to state and local government transparency. The Sunny Awards are for websites that provide windows into government activity.
Illinois' 19 Sunny Awards ranked it third in the nation behind only Florida and Texas.
Sunshine Review managing editor Kristin McMurray says the state did so well because several cities and counties in the state provide online data such as budgets, audits and vendor contracts.
