Carbondale Police Arrest One After Shots Fired, Standoff

One person is in custody after an hours-long standoff in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say they were called out to shots fired in the 400 block of East Ashley Street around 3:15 Monday afternoon. A short investigation found the shooting was a part of a fight in a nearby parking lot.

As police searched for people involved, they say the identified one suspect who had taken refuge in a home in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street. For several hours, negotiators worked to bring the suspect out of the home.

After search warrant and arrest warrant were secured, police arrested 27-year old William J. Stewart around 8:30 in the evening. CPD says no one was injured in the initial shooting incident, and there were no reported injuries during the arrest.
