The Carbondale Park District is putting 18 full-time employees on what it calls "temporary furlough," as the agency deals with the economic impact of the coronavirus.
The District says the furloughs begin this Friday, and notes the pandemic and restrictions to prevent its spread have had a significant impact on its bottom line.
While parks within the district are open, playgrounds are off limits, as well as ballfields, basketball courts, and soccer fields. Golf is allowed at Hickory Ridge, but tee times must be reserved by calling ahead. Childcare centers are also closed, until the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted.
