A Carbondale man pleaded guilty to trying to fight off police officers during an attempted arrest earlier this year.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says 27-year-old Jewlious Causey was sentenced to three years in prison.
In the overnight hours of March 17, Carbondale police officers were on foot patrol in the area of 315 West Walnut Street where a crowd of people had gathered at a business. Causey was one of them. He was on probation for a previous battery conviction and had active warrants pending out of Jackson County.
When officers approached Causey to place him under arrest for those warrants, he pulled away, yelled profanities and spit in the faces of two officers.
