The summer reading program encourages kids to read even when school is out.

The Carbondale Public Library is offering a virtual reading program this summer.

The theme of this year’s program is Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover. Kids who take part will explore mountain ranges in a variety of ways.

Francine Wine-Frakowski, children’s librarian, said they’ve adjusted the program to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“We purchased a new software, where kids can log their reading online, we also utilize Facebook to introduce our theme every week, do Storytimes, we do a take and make craft every week and we also show that, advertise that on Facebook as well,” she said.

The library is also hosting Storywalks, where pages of a book are placed along a nature trail so families can read as they walk.

The program runs through July 31st, and there are teen and adult summer reading programs being offered as well. More information is available on the library’s.
