Carbondale will add two mass COVID vaccination sites on Friday.

The state of Illinois is opening mass vaccination sites at the Banterra Center and the Carbondale Civic Center to help boost the number of shots available in southern Illinois.

The city was contacted about a month ago by the Illinois Department of Public Health to start hosting vaccinations.

Carbondale Public Relations Officer Roni LeForge says this site will allow an additional 540 people to get vaccinated a day.

“The quicker 1B is vaccinated the quicker we can move on to 1C, the city of Carbondale and the Carbondale City Council through the entire pandemic worked really hard to provide information and resources for our residents and this is part of that, providing a facility where people can very easily access a mass vaccination clinic.”

The site will be open from 9AM to 8PM Monday through Saturday.

Vaccines are by appointment only made through the Jackson County Health Department's website.
