Three Southern Illinois University Carbondale students are under arrest following an armed robbery Wednesday in one of the school's residence halls.
SIU spokesman Rod Sievers says 18-year old Martin Tabb of Chicago, 18-year old David Tonsel of South Holland, and 19-year old Darius Bell of Chicago are charged with aggravated robbery, home invasion, and residential burglary. Jackson County court records indicate Tabb and Bell have already been formally charged. The students have been issued separation notices by the university. SIU Police are calling this a targeted incident and not a random act.
Originally, Campus police said two men with guns pushed residents back into a room on the 17th floor of Neely Hall around 4:30 yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, took cash and a cell phone, and escaped down the stairs. Students were urged to lock their doors after the incident, but police stressed the campus was not on lockdown.
