Legislators speak at summit ahead of Du Quoin state fair

Ahead of the Du Quoin state fair, area politicians held a legislative summit Thursday.

Senator Terri Bryant addressed concerns about the increase in the state's motor fuel tax, noting that while many people are unhappy about it, much of the money is coming back to the region.

"So the fortunate thing is, now, that we have money to repair our roads and bridges, to make sure that we're getting our fair share here. The money is spit, 60/40, 40 north of I-80 and 60 south of I-80. We haven't always been able to get that money released, but it's getting released now," she said.

Bryant also discussed issues with the SAFETY Act, including changes to the cash bail system.
