The Jackson County Health Department is offering COVID vaccine clinics at area schools this month.
These clinics are open to the entire community, not just students, said Jessica Grammer, who is a preparedness and client specialist.
"These are the second doses for people that came in our first round of clinics, and we're also going to over first doses so anyone is eligible to come, ages 12 and up," she said. "If whole families want to come or just people by themselves, it's not just open to school-aged children. It's open to anybody 12 and older."
Grammer said that while young people might not be as concerned about COVID, it's important for everyone to get vaccinated.
"Well, even though I think you hear a lot that COVID isn't bad for kids, it's important to know any kind of sickness can affect different people differently. I think COVID has been one of those that we can really see that. Some people get a really bad case, some people don't, you know it just keeps the kids safe, it keeps their family safe," she said.
The clinics will be held at Carbondale High School on June 29th, from 2 -6 pm, at Murphysboro High School on June 30th from 9 am to 1 pm, and at Elverado High School on July 1st from 2 to 6 pm. Teens ages 12 to 17 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no charge for the vaccine.
