The SIU men's and women's basketball teams held their annual Media Day Wednesday at the newly named Banterra Center.
New Saluki men's head coach Bryan Mullins says his team will hopefully play a lot like he did when the Saluki Hall of Famer set the school record for assists and led two teams to the NCAA Tournament.

"In terms of toughness, the work ethic, the competitiveness, that stuff that I kind of staple myself on, that's definitely going to be our identity and our personality as a team."

The men tip-off their season with an exhibition game October 22 at home against Minnesota State.

The SIU women are coming off a 15-15 season. Head Coach Cindy Stein says the team is focused right now on steady improvement.

"When we concentrate on that and just getting better every day and making sure we're showing up every day, that's when we're going to really succeed."

The SIU women tip-off November 8 at SIU-Edwardsville.
