Two people arrested following an early morning incident Friday in Carbondale

Two Marion residents have been arrested after an incident early this morning in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say 32-year-old Chad Smith and 26-year-old Bryonne Williams were taken into custody.

Officers conducted safety surveillance after a crowd of people congregated in the 100 block of North Washington Street around 2 a.m. .

They observed a person involved in a conflict armed with a handgun. That person left the area in a vehicle, responding officers immediately stopped the vehicle and arrested Smith and Williams.

Smith is charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Forgery after officers found counterfeit currency in his possession.

Williams is charged with unlawful Sale/Delivery of a Firearm to a Felon.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
