One person is dead in a single-vehicle accident in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reports 44-year-old Rafael Jordan of Murphysboro was driving east on Old Highway 13, just east of County Club Road in rural Murphysboro, late Wednesday night.

Deputies say while negotiating a curve to the left, the vehicle left the roadway to the right, Jordan over-corrected to the left, and lost control. The vehicle then hit a utility pole.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown into the back seat.

Jordan later died at an area hospital.
