Three southern Illinoisans cited for poaching deer, bobcats and turkeys

No Poaching Sign

Three people face criminal charges and penalties for poaching deer, bobcats and turkeys on private land and other violations.

Illinois Conservation Police received a complaint in Perry County last January about a potentially poached large white-tailed buck. They identified Sally Albers from Breese as the hunter who illegally harvested the deer because she did not have a hunting license or habitat stamp.

Police then determined Justin Bauersachs of Pinckneyville assisted her with unlawfully taking the deer.

He was arrested this month for criminal trespass to private property and multiple conservation violations in Jackson and Perry counties.

Additionally, Albers and Greg Cottom of Pinckneyville were each issued citations for conservation violations as a result of the investigation.

In Jackson County, Cottom was cited for poaching a bobcat.

Bauersachs' citation included possession of unlawfully taken wildlife and hunting without the consent of a landowner.

Albers was also cited for hunting without consent of a landowner.
