The severe drought conditions from this spring and summer in Illinois are starting to ease as autumn officially begins on Saturday.
The storm from Hurricane Isaac and subsequent rainfall has alleviated some of the worst drought conditions with much of the state now in either a moderate or severe drought. State Climatologist Jim Angel says most of the year southern Illinois was suffering from the worst drought conditions. He says the trouble spots have now moved to northwestern Illinois. Angel says average statewide rainfall for the first half of September is above normal at 3.7- inches.
