Governor Bruce Rauner is scheduled to deliver his budget message to the Illinois General Assembly this Wednesday.

In advance of that, interest groups are lining up to plead their case for state funding. Monday, representatives of the state’s colleges and universities made their case.

The call for higher education funding continues to build, as more institutions announce draconian cuts across Illinois.

Coins have been around for centuries, and so have people that collect them.

Some coins from the past are worth a penny while those other rare ones can be worth a lot more.

Some can be taken at face value, while others can be worth hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Spring enrollment at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is down.

But, school officials say they anticipated it following a decline in fall enrollment.

Governor Bruce Rauner will give his State of the State address this week, and experts say all eyes and ears will be tuned to any new information about the budget stalemate.

SIU Bomb Threat

A Chicago man who said he was seeking attention on a campus where he was bullied and harassed has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to making bomb threats in a self-declared "war'' on Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

SIU Trustees have approved a change in the way some schools report to the administration - something leaders hope will be more efficient, but others still have concerns about.

Former SIU head football coach and current Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill surprisingly announced his immediate retirement from coaching Wednesday.

The 54-year-old Kill, who has beaten kidney cancer and suffers from epilepsy, cited medical reasons for the decision.
