On the final day of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Poshard Foundation doled out $100,000 dollars in grants funds.

The money went to 30 southern Illinois agencies serving abused and neglected children.

In 1983 Congress declared April as national child abuse prevention month. 

Social service agencies from across the area gathered at John A Logan College on Friday to kick off child abuse prevention month.

The Williamson County Family Crisis Center in Herrin has been helping families get back on their feet for over 30 years. On Monday, the Poshard Foundation brought them a gift.

National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children Training

The Poshard Foundation sponsored a conference on Thursday lead by representatives from the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.

The DEC’s goal is to train social, law, medical and other service agencies to understand each other and work together in collaboration to put children’s needs first by identifying and responding to children living in dangerous environments.

One room in   Building H at John A. Logan College was filled with 100s of toys, collected by the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children and partners Tri-State Business Equipment in Harrisburg and Ameren Illinois.  In all, over 700 new toys were collected and were picked up by case workers with several southern Illinois social service agencies.
