Severe Weather Potential for Tuesday

There is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms across much of the region Tuesday.

During a Facebook live session, National Weather Service meteorologist Pat Spoden in Paducah says the main threat will be damaging winds.

Wintry Precipitation Likely To Cause Travel Impacts Tuesday night into Early Wednesday Morning...   Precipitation is expected to spread northeast across the region late Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours. Sub-freezing temperatures will be located north of the Ohio River as the precipitation arrives. The colder air will progress slowly south into western Kentucky later Tuesday night.   North of the Ohio River and the Cape Girardeau area, a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected Tuesday night.

Winter Storm Warning for Parts of Region

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THURSDAY TO 9 PM FRIDAY FOR MUCH OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL.

The National Weather Service says last week's tornado that tore through parts of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois was an EF-4 - with top winds of 180 miles an hour - and was a half a mile wide.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 am to 6 pm Wednesday.

Rain will transition over to wet snow late Tuesday night over portions of southeast Missouri...then along the Mississippi River and over southern Illinois Wednesday morning. The snow will continue during the day...before tapering off from west to east Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Blizzard Watch from Christmas evening through Wednesday morning.

The location of the rain snow line will be critical for determining snowfall amounts. Based on the current expected storm track,the rain snow line will extend from around New Madrid Missouri, northeast across Paducah Kentucky to around Evansville Indiana.

The National Weather Service has canceled the Winter Weather Advisory for Jackson County and most of southern Illinois south of Interstate 64. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in affect until 6:00 am Tuesday for Fayette, Clinton, Marion, Randolph, and Washington Counties in southern Illinois and St Francois and St.
