The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the region from Saturday evening into Sunday.
Forecasters expect snow to spread over southeast Missouri by Saturday afternoon, and southern Illinois by the evening hours. Two to four inches of snow is expected before the precipitation changes over to freezing rain overnight.
The area within the Advisory is mainly along and north of Route 13 in southern Illinois, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for the Metro East area near St. Louis. Much more snow is expected in areas included in the Winter Storm Warning.
Travel will be difficult overnight Saturday into Sunday. As temperatures rise above freezing Sunday afternoon, the NWS expects precipitation to change to rain and then taper off by Sunday night.
